Hockey India extended heartfelt congratulations to veteran hockey player Harbinder Singh for being honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award. The legendary centre forward played a pivotal role in India's historic victory at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the team clinched the Gold Medal by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final.

Stellar Olympic journey and continued impact

Harbinder Singh's illustrious career spanned from 1961 to 1972, encompassing three Olympic Games and multiple medal victories. In addition to the Gold in 1964, he contributed to India's success by securing Bronze in the 1968 Mexico Olympics and the 1972 Munich Olympics. His influence extended beyond the Olympics, with significant achievements in Asian Games, including a Gold in 1966 and a Silver in 1970.
